Typescript and photocopy of the minutes of the Board of Commissioners for the Town of Columbus (1828) and a photocopy of the surveyor's field notes of his survey of “the Reservation at the Cowetah Fall on the Chattahoochee River, and also of the Town of Columbus, commencing 30th of January1828”. The photocopies were made by the Surveyor General Department, Office of Secretary of State, Archives and Records Building, Atlanta, in 1966.

Photocopy and typescript of a letter held at the Georgia Department of Archives and History from Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State, regarding an “act relative to Western Territory” (April 6, 1790); a typescript of E. L. Thomas' field notes of his survey of Columbus (January 30, 1828 through May 15, 1828); and sample photocopies of the original of the notes, from the Surveyor General Department, Georgia Secretary of State.

Scope and Contents This is a 281 page typescript of information regarding Robert Archelaus Hardaway (b. 1829), who owned a cotton plantation in Macon, Alabama and fought in the Mexican-American War and later with Confederate Army. His 30-page memoirs describe the outlines of his life, his family, travels, his early years in Columbus, Georgia, his purchase of a cotton plantation in Macon County, Alabama (later Bullock County), his service in the Mexican-American War and action in Mexico, his return to Columbus...

Contains a photo static copy of pages from Company Book of Captain R. A. Hardaway of the Independent Light Infantry, later changed to Hardaway's Battery and later known as Hurt's Battery, as well as reprints of Columbus newspaper articles with Hardaway's account of the Battle of Bull Run. (1861-1864)
