Letter from John Zeigler to Cathy Fussell, director of the Carson McCullers Center, enclosing three letters from David Diamond to Robert Walden during Diamond's stay at Yaddo in May and June of 1942. Zeigler says that "Walden was introduced to the Smiths while he was stationed at Fort Benning and saw them often. Carson visited him and his friend Edward Newbury in Charlotte and were at the opening of the Member of the Wedding.", 2005 January 18

The note reads, in its entirety, "Dear Cathy, I have just come across this piece by Roberta (Topie) Johnson Steiner, Carson's first cousin, who introduced me to Edwin by mail. She had been the roommate of a good friend of mine at college and editor of her college magazine. Sorry I won't be at the Conference, but my travelling days are over. I'm looking forward to a visit by Roger Harris in October. All good wishes, John"

Zeigler wrote his responses on her letter and returned it to her. There is also a photograph of Carson McCullers and Marielle Bancou probably made in the early 1960s.
