James Floyd Avary Collection
Scope and Contents
An eclectic collection, it includes biographies of prominent men with early roots in Columbus: Samuel Spencer, president of the Southern Railway Company; Oscar S. Straus, founder of Macy's Department Store; and George “Kid” Woodruff, University of Georgia football coach. It also contains football memorabilia (Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and Georgia Tech) and material relating to Columbus Elks Lodge, 1927.
