Biographical / Historical
The Blackmar family is one of the oldest families in Columbus, Georgia. John Blackmar was one of the sons of Alfred Owen Blackmar and his wife Mary. John was born in Georgia on January 2, 1853. In the 1880 census he was listed as a fire insurance agent and lived on Forsyth St. He married Susie Wellborn in 1884. By 1910 they were living at 1404 4th Ave and he was a real estate agent. 1920 saw them on 1230 3rd Ave with two of their children Ray W. and Francis B. By 1930 they lived at 1336 3rd Ave and had been married 31 years. John died March 25, 1931 and is buried at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. His children included Alfred Owen Blackmar (1884-1944), Ray Wellborn Blackmar (1887-1917), John Braisard Blackmar (1890-1917), Susie Ellis Blackmar (1895-1981) and Dr. Francis B. Blackmar (1898- 1977). All birth and death dates are taken from Find-a-Grave.com.
