Box 14: Financial Statements, Bradley Family
Scope and Contents
The Bradley Papers were found when the records of the Eagle & Phenix Mills (MC 13) were being re-processed as a result of the move of the CSU archives around 2015. The re-processing of the Eagle & Phenix Mills was begun by Jesse Chariton. During his work on the corporate records, he identified the Bradley papers. His work was completed by Tom Converse in 2023.

Processing Information
These documents are periodic summary statements of the assets and liabilities of W.C. Bradley and various members of his family. They are variously called Balance Sheets, Financial Statements, Audits, Reports of Examinations and other similar terms. Some are marked as “incomplete” or “trial Balance.” Besides the personal assets of the family, the businesses with which they were involved as owners, directors, and/or share-holders were closely monitored by W.C. Bradley. He had very detailed financial statements prepared for each of them as well for his personal wealth. Many of these statements were doubtless used in the normal course of business for the companies involved, but they are held in Bradley’s papers, filed alphabetically by name of company and thereunder by date. There is a great deal of overlap between Bradley’s personal records and the corporate records of the businesses involved. The processors attempted to place the strictly Bradley-related family financial records in Series 2 – Finances and to put the financial statements of the individual enterprises in their related folders in Series 3 – Bradley Business Interests. In cases of doubt, they are filed in Series 2 with the family statements. There are multiple copies of many of these statements. There are also a few records of Organizations to which he belonged. They are filed with the businesses. Much of the material in the following folders consists of work sheets and drafts of various Statements, Balance Sheets and other documents prepared to show the financial conditions of W. C. Bradley, Sarah Hall Bradley, and William Bradley Turner.
