Survey of District 9 of Muscogee County, Georgia, 1826
Scope and Contents
This collection is divided into two series. Series 1 – Professional and Series 2 – Personal.
Series 1 – This series consists of materials relating to various aspects of Grover V. Carr's professional life. This includes the 2,700 property surveys made by Carr and his firm, G. V. Carr and Company, Professional Engineers and Surveyors, throughout west central Georgia prepared from the 1941 through the 1988. A large majority of the surveys are of property in Columbus and Muscogee County, Georgia. Mr. Meyer donated surveys nos. 1 through 1,350; Mr. Carr donated surveys nos. 1,351 through 2,025; and Mrs. Brawner donated surveys nos. 2,026 through 2,700. (There are several missing surveys.) At the same time, they donated the cases in which the documents were filed. There is a two volume index by name of the person who commissioned each survey for these surveys.
In addition to the index to the surveys, there is a partial card index to street names in Columbus, GA with indications for property surveys done by the Carr firm on each street. The index covers street names Abby Drive through Melborne Drive.
Grover V. Carr also had a nearly complete set of photocopies of the original 1826 survey of Muscogee County, Georgia performed by W.P. Reid, district Surveyor, and his team of surveyors.
The remaining material in Series 1 is grouped into the following categories:
General Surveying Material, which includes such things as technical publications related to engineering, cartography, surveying, and other related subjects, as well as state requirements for surveyors in both Georgia and Alabama.
Water Related Material, which includes information on flood plains and storm water management. This includes studies, maps, and other related materials.
Transportation Related Material, which includes maps of proposed roads, river ports, and proposed joint public transportation projects for Columbus GA and Phenix City, AL.
Emergency Response Material, which includes a set of maps from the Fallout Shelter Survey by County and City done for Georgia in 1963, and other materials relating to public safety measures during the Cold War.
Series 2 – Personal Materials
